The Buddha was originally royal prince Shakyamuni, born in 624 BC in North India. His father named him “Siddhartha” and trained him to become a valiant Prince. Prince Shakyamuni mastered all the traditional methods of a great warrior, but always had a keener interest to know and master the meaning of life. Every encounter with the poor, the sick, the old and the dying led him to question why all living beings are trapped in a cycle of suffering. He felt compelled to leave the royal palace and retire to the hills to meditate and find answers to his questions. The Buddha in Meditation tells the story of a quest of a young prince sacrificing the pleasures, comforts and glory of the royal kingdom, to seek and experience a greater glory - the glory of the self and the understanding of life. Buddha, The Enlightened One, tells the story of how the chief of all the demons – Devaputra Mara tried to interfere with Prince Siddhartha’s meditation by conjuring up many apparitions - fierce animals, fiery arrows, and beautiful women; but the Prince was unaffected having transitioned to a state of complete wisdom and peace, where nothing could disturb him. Piston Fill, 18 Kt gold nib available in Fine, Medium and Broad.

Russian Miniature Art from the School of Palekh
-- It is believed that the Circus finds its origins in ancient Rome where open-air stadiums housed horse and chariot races. Traveling circuses in Europe were common in the 18th century where animal trainers and performers went from town to town. In 1919, Vladimir Lenin nationalized the circus. This led to the creation of the State University of Circus and Variety Arts, better known as the Moscow Circus School in 1927. Today, circus performers are awarded recognition by The International Circus Festival that has been held in Monte Carlo since 1974. Piston Fill, 18 Kt gold nib available in Fine, Medium and Broad.
