The Pen of the Year 2007 features Petrified Wood from Brazil, a fossilized material that developed over 300 million years into a gemstone-like substance similar to chalcedony or agate.
- Gemstone Material: Petrified wood (petrified deciduous wood), which is hard, durable, and polished to a brilliant finish, showcasing grain structures in colors ranging from light brown to anthracite grey and black.
- Craftsmanship: The stone sections are cut and polished by the Herbert Stephan Gemstone Manufactory in Idar Oberstein, Germany.
- Design: Each of the eight stone segments is encased in a platinum-plated frame. The cap is finished with a facet-cut, petrified wood end-cap.
