The Custom 845 is the newest series to launch in the Custom line of fountain pens for the United States. The Custom line was first introduced by Pilot in 1971 to create a range of fountain pens that are truly tailored to the users writing preferences. Each series in the Custom line offers distinctive benefits, ranging from nib sizes to ink reservoir/converters to body style or size. Urushi lacquer comes from the sap of the Asian lacquer tree. When applied to the pen barrel, it hardens and absorbs moisture from the air, resulting in a shiny coat. Creating an Urushi lacquer fountain pen is an exacting and complex process because the lacquer must be carefully applied to the pen barrel in numerous hand painted layers. This traditional Japanese technique ultimately enhances both the pensÆ beauty and longevity. Urushi coating will withstand corrosion from water, acids, alcohol, and even temperature changes, making the Custom 845 the perfect pen to use every day and pass down to future generations. The fountain pen is enhanced with a 18kt gold nib, available in M,F, and B. Cartridge/converter fill included.
