Platinum Izumo Yakumo Byakudan

The fourth in the Platinum Izumo series and a follow-up to the highly popular Platinum Izumo Yagumonuri, the Platinum Izumo Byakudan Ocean of Clouds fountain pen commemorates Izumo Taisha's Dai-Sengu ritual with a motif of a sea of clouds.

This sacred Buddhist ritual is dedicated to the gods believed to have created Japan and its origins, and the clouds are a symbol of Izumo.

The Izumo Byakudan Ocean of Clouds fountain pen has a full form with soft, curved lines and a tapered shape. The long gripping section includes a threaded ring for a secure connection with the cap. It also offers a pleasant traction for the fingers and thumb when writing. This is a large, full-bodied pen - though big in the hand, it is not overly heavy. The pen uses Platinum's reliable cartridges, or can be filled with bottled ink with the included converter. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.

Deep reddish-purple Urushi lacquer serves as the backdrop for this elegant writing instrument, with the ocean of clouds depicted using orange, red, and teal Urushi. Gold powder brings the scene to life and helps define the outline of the abundant clouds.

Painted largely with dark, nuanced colors, the Izumo Byakudan has pops of vivid oranges and reds to emphasize some of the ethereal clouds.
These Yagumo, or ""thick clouds"", are drawn on the ceiling of the Izumo Taisha shrine. The motif evokes images of the creation story of Japan.
The simple domed cap end and decorative gold clip combine style with function. As the light hits the cap the intricate reddish-purple color truly shines.
